May 17 ~ I was exhausted and called for a rest day. Went to sleep around 8:30pm and slept through 8am. Most rested I’ve felt in weeks. Nothing is sore on me, which is pretty surprising. So far we’ve rested 6 days and paddled 10. Paddled in to Poet’s Cove to get some water then spent the warm afternoon practicing rolls and rescues. I got 2 rolls, which makes me feel a lot better about the trip. If I get into big water, there is a pretty good chance I can right-myself without exiting the boat. (Phil has a stronger whitewater background and was confident in his roll from his time in Pennsylvania whitewater). Met some kind folks – Kim and Eden and their dog Skipper, and had dinner with some other paddlers, Jill and Patrick, (fried potatoe pancakes and they shared 2 beers with us). Washed my hair.
