Day 17 – Beaumont to Prevost Island

May 18, 2009 ~ Packed the boats slowly. I hate packing the boats. It takes forever and I never believe that it will all fit. Headed through Port Browning and along the coast of N. Pender Island to the crossing to Prevost. Many ferries!! Tried to radio using the VHF, but did not use the right verbage or something. Waited til it looked clear and sprinted!!

Phil made dough for stromboli. 60-65 degrees and rainy today. Was cold in my long sleeve and R.5 bottoms under my drysuit. Head stays completely dry under my kokatat hat. Drysuit is aggravating my lower back where the drawstring runs across the seatback. The dropseat, however, seems to be no problem at all. May 18, 200~

Hi Apryle -it looks like the trip has been going well so far. Let me know when you plan to be in Campbell River so we can arrange a farm tour for you.

Mary Ellen,
Thanks for the note! We haven’t had very good cell coverage and missed you in Campbell River. We’re pretty well off schedule and have a lot more on our plate than we anticipated….tough for us just to get through the basics each day (eat, sleep, paddle). We’ve stopped by a few farms and talked with the staff briefly; everyone has been friendly and helpful. We’d definitely like to hear your side of the story and will check in with the farms that we pass en route north if time permits to see if we can arrange something impromptu. Otherwise we’ll look forward to more discussion once we’re back from the trip!
