Expedition Update – Two Months!!!

Two months to the day until we push off on the Go Wild Inside Passage Expedition! Lots of excitement here as the date draws nearer. For the past couple of weeks we have been busy as can be preparing our house for the summer rental season and getting our affairs in order for our four-month long hiatus from civilization.

We have also been working diligently to finalize our sponsors and gear list. We are excited to announce Kokatat as one of our major sponsors. We will be paddling in Kokatat drysuits and PFDs, dry, warm and happy. Apryle will have more details for you shortly.

In about a week and a half we are hitting the road for Madison, Wisconsin…home to the famous Canoecopia paddlesports expo. We are looking forward to meeting our sponsors, fitting a bunch of gear, and picking up some helpful tips on photography and other kayaking skills from the myriad presentations. On the way back, we’ll stop in Winona, Minnesota to tour the Current Designs factory and pick up our shiny new kayaks: the Cypress and Infinity. We are -very- excited to check out the new boats, complete with expedition layup and our choice of colors: Apryle went with yellow, and mango for me!

After Canoecopia we will begin promoting our expedition and soliciting donations in earnest, as well as dipping our blades (and heads!) into frigid Lake Estes to train for the upcoming trip. We could sure use your help in promoting our trip and bringing on the donations…so please share our website with your friends, family, and co-workers. We are also cooking up plans for a launch party on May 2nd, for which details will be forthcoming. Thank you all for your support and encouragement, and let’s make a difference in the survival of wild Pacific salmon!!

I really don’t think that dipping your head in Estes Park is going to prepare anyone.

We’ll be dipping our heads in while practicing rolling our kayaks. For all the non-paddlers out there, if the boat unexpectedly tips over (or intentionally – there is actually a whole genre of paddlers who specifically focus on different rolling techniques), you want to know how to right yourself without getting out of the boat.
