In addition to photos and stories, Phil and Apryle will provide tips on packing light and planning food rations.  The Colorado Trail is right out our backdoor – whether you’re considering a weekend mountain biking trip, a month long hiking expedition, or volunteer trail work come see how you can take advantage of this amazing trail!

Hi Phil and Apryl — enjoyed your presentation! A long distance hike/trek is something I’ve always wanted to do. Your description and tips were very helpful. Makes it seem doable and very satisfying to boot!

One question I forgot to ask. You mentioned you brought along a Spot Personal Tracker device. Spot 1 or Spot 2? How did you find the reception and effectiveness to be, both on-trail and checking how well the messages got through upon returning home?

Thanks again!

Our Spot is from 2009. The reception was awesome, you just have to place it in a clearing in the trees so it can pick up the satellites.

On the trail it’s impossible to know if they got through or not. In both our 111 day kayak trip in B.C. an on the CO trail, I think we only had 2 misplaced points (both from the kayak trip). So, it’s pretty amazing. We also carry it on climbing trips and solo hiking trips. It’s great piece of mind.
