Colden Trap Dyke

In early March, 2003, Sean Yaw, Adam Sears, and I headed for the ‘Daks to gain some mountaineering experience with the Trap Dyke on Colden as our main goal.  The trip was excellent….we got up the Trap Dyke, later failed (due to navigational issues) on the North Face of Gothics, learned exactly how cold -30 Fahrenheit really is, and suffered just enough.  Great experience all around.

On the trip, we successfully climbed Mt. Colden via the Trap Dyke (NEI 2 2000’). We also attempted Gothics North Face (NEI 2 1100’) but turned back early due to routefinding. During trip, low temperatures fell below –30 degrees Fahrenheit.
