I think I want to sign up for the Horsetooth half marathon in Fort Collins this spring. It will be a great way to get in shape for our trip and to build up some muscle in my legs before I atrophy them sitting in a kayak for four months.
Starting yesterday (I went for a short run yesterday), I will begin training. I will follow Hal Higdon’s half-marathon training plan for beginners: http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htm. It’s a 12-week plan, so it will officially start on Jan 25, 2009 to prepare me for an April 19th half. I’ll use the next few weeks to build up to running 3 miles multiple times per week.
